Steamwheelers strike liquid gold in Tulsa

The Quad City Steamwheelers have hit the road for an exciting away game against the Tulsa Oilers, as they look to continue their win streak and the Oilers seek out their first tally in the "W" column. 

The opening possession for the Oilers sought a promising drive, but ended with a blocked field goal. 

Steamwheelers' QB E.J. Hilliard Jr. used both his legs and arm to cap off the first drive with a pass to WR Mike Carrigan. PAT good, Wheelers 7-0.

The Oilers looked to start on their 15-yard line. QB Bobby Froehlich's pass over the middle was picked off by CB Kendricks Gladney Jr.

Needed to capitalize on the great field possession, Hilliard finds WR C.J. Windham for a double digit lead. PAT blocked for 2 points, Wheelers 13-2. 

The Steamwheeler defense had shut down any sort of early momentum for the Oilers and forced a long field goal attempt which was good. Wheelers 13-5. 

WR Jarrod Harrington with a good return just past mid-field. Hilliard produced yet another rushing touchdown of the season. PAT good, Wheelers 20-5. 

One play, one score from Froehlich to WR Montero Dubose. PAT good, Wheelers 20-12. 

Hilliard and the Quad City offense answered with a WR Keyvan Rudd connection for a touchdown. PAT good, Wheelers 27-12. 

Another defensive stand ends with a made field goal. Wheelers 27-15. 

On the kick-off return, RB Jerron McGaw took a house call for six. PAT missed, Wheelers 33-15. 

Froehlich delivered a contested pass to WR Joshua Crockett for the score. PAT missed, Wheelers 33-21. 

In the last second effort before half, Carrigan struck pay dirt with another connection from Hilliard. PAT good, Wheelers 40-21.

Kicking off the next two quarters, Harrington took it to the Oilers 10-yard line and then took the pitch trotting in for the touchdown. PAT good, Wheelers 47-21.

Oilers matched the score with a Froehlich sneak from the half yard line. 2 point conversion attempt no good, Wheelers 47-27. 

The Wheeler offense kept it rolling, Hilliard found Carrigan touchdown, his third on the night. PAT good, Wheelers 54-27. 

Yet again a sQUAD City defensive three-and-out. Field goal attempt good, Wheelers 54-30. 

Penalty trouble helped Tulsa move into positive field position. DB Darreon Jackson read the QB's eyes and jumped the pass, taking it the length of the field for the score. PAT good, Wheelers, 61-30. 

Mid-field start for the Oilers ended with a wall tumbling touchdown for WR Tyler Jones from Froehlich. PAT missed, Wheelers 61-36.

Next drive for Quad City went the wrong direction, turning the ball over-on-downs. 

Tulsa capitalized on the short field with a Crockett score. 2 point conversion attempt, no good. Wheelers 61-42.

QB Damion May took over the offensive reins and found Harrington for six. PAT good, Wheelers 68-42. 

The Steamwheelers won the game 68 to 42 and improved to 3-1 on the season. Catch the next home game at Vibrant Arena at THE MARK Saturday, April 22, a 7:05 kick-off as the Wheelers host Massachusetts Pirates.
