Wheeler receiver makes SC Top Ten catch in big win

Steamwheeler fans, we hope you tuned into game seven for the sQUAD, it was a crazy game that came down to the last few minutes and the Wheelers snapped their two game skid against the Sioux Falls Storm.

The Storm got going loud and quick, starting off the game with two quick touchdowns to establish the lead, 14-0 over Quad Cities. Later on in the first quarter Mike Irwin threw a dime of a pass to Jordan Vesey, which led to a touchdown pass to Edward Vander.

Mike Irwin ended the game with almost 180 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown of his own.

After Kyle Kaplan kicked a good PAT the Wheelers got on the board, 14-7 trailing by a touchdown going into the second quarter.

In the second the Storm was moving down the field with lightning speed and they scored just as fast, putting them up 21-7 at this point in the game. Shortly after this the sQUAD worked their way down the field and capped off the drive with another touchdown by Vander.

Edward Vander put his hands on display tonight ending with 3 touchdowns, 87 receiving yards and almost 30 rushing yards.

Later on in the period Mike Irwin threw a great pass to Jordan Vesey who made a highlight catch that should be frontrunner for catch of the year in the IFL so far. A jumping, diving catch over the Storm DB and Vesey held on to the ball as he fell out of bounds. Scoring another touchdown in the process and after a good Kaplan PAT, ties the game at 21.

Jordan Vesey ended the evening with 2 touchdowns on 3 receptions, along with 48 receiving yards.

The Storm ended up kicking a FG  to take the lead 24-21 going into the second half.

The Steamwheelers started off the second half with a bang, Jarrod Harington gave the Wheelers the lead with a 58 yard kick return touchdown. Another good extra point by Kaplan put the Wheelers up 28-24 over the Storm.

Soon after however the Storm struck again scoring another touchdown and taking a 2 point lead over the Steamwheelers, 30 - 28.

The Wheelers fired right back the next chance they got with another Vander TD to take the lead back, and a Kap PAT to extend the lead 35-30.

The Steamwheeler defense really showed off tonight, it was an all hands on deck effort with every defensive player picking up at least two tackles on the night. Jaylin Swan led the way with 6 total tackles including 4 solo and 2 assisted and a sack.

The next drive for the Storm was a rough one with the Wheeler defense forcing a turnover on downs and Kaplan kicking a FG right through the uprights to extend the lead to 38-30.

The fourth quarter is where the game reached its peak with Malik Duncan starting it off with an interception for the sQUAD. This led to Irwin running the ball in on the other end for a touchdown and an extra point by Kap to make it a 45-30 game.

Sioux Falls didn't go down without a fight however, they came back and scored another touchdown to chop the lead down to 45-37. The Wheelers again extended the lead with another FG from Kaplan, making it a 48-37 game in the middle of the fourth quarter.

The Storm came back again and worked their way into the endzone for a touchdown, chopping the lead to 5, 48-43. Then they recovered a fumble as the Wheelers lost the ball on the snap, leading to a Sioux Falls TD to take the lead 49-48 late in the game.

It came down under a minute for the sQUAD to try and score to take the lead again and Irwin connected with Vander for a TD to put them on top again, and after a good two point conversion the Wheelers were up 56-49.

Trey Smith ended the game and put the dagger in the hearts of every Sioux Falls fan in the arena with a game ending interception

This big win for the Steamwheelers brings them to 3-4 on the season and brings the Storm to 1-6 on the year so far.
