Steamwheeler Fans! It's time for another iteration of The Battle of I-80! This weekend the sQUAD takes a road trip to Des Moines once again to lock horns with the Iowa Barnstormers.
This game will take place on Saturday June 15th and kickoff will be at 7:05 PM CT.. This matchup will be broadcasted on Caffine TV as well as the official IFL YouTube channel.
About The Steamwheelers
The Steamwheelers are coming off a huge win over the Frisco Fighters that came down to the last few seconds. The Wheelers and Fighters had a back and forth boxing match with each team throwing lefts and rights the whole contest. Frisco was fighting to take the lead when they had a chance to tie on a FG, but their luck ran out and the Steamwheelers held on to take the W at home, 52-49. The Wheelers are now batting .500 on the year with a 5-5 record coming into this game.
About the Barnstormers
The Barnstormers are coming off a bye week last week. Well rested, the Barnstormers are looking to continue their momentum from their last outing in this one against the sQUAD. Iowa's last game was a big one, capturing their first road win of the season over the Sioux Falls Storm. This win brought them to 3-7 overall and at home the Stormers are 2-2.
Last Time Out
The last time these two leviathans faced off, the Steamwheelers won, 57-55, with a game-winning FG by Kyle Kaplan. It was a high-energy, back and forth game between the two that saw 17 lead changes inside a raucous Vibrant Arena at the MARK. This matchup was a dogfight until the end and we could expect a similar result in this upcoming contest.
Players to Watch
Offense
Warren Newman III - WR // QCS - Newman made his season debut with the sQUAD against the Frisco Fighters last week and he did not disappoint. The speedy and compact receiver put defenses on notice by picking up a touchdown on 3 receptions for 34 yards. Keep an eye out for number three to relentlessly punish the Barnstormers defense.
Daniel Smith - QB // IAB - The Barnstormers new QB made his season debut in their last outing against Sioux Falls. Smith displayed all of his talents against the Storm, throwing for almost 180 yards and five passing touchdowns, while also picking up a rushing touchdown in the process.
Defense
Kevin Moore III - DB // QCS - Moore had a breakout game last week versus Frisco. He picked up 10 total tackles including 9 solo and two assisted tackles along with one key pass break up on the night. Watch for him to terrorize the Barnstormers' offense on Saturday with no remorse.
Krystapher Oakley - DL // IAB - Oakley made his impact felt in the Stormers last game, racking up 6 total tackles, all solo, and a tackle for loss and a sack as the cherry on top. Facing a Wheelers front who earned "Strongman of the Game" as a group last week, Oakley most like embracing the challenge ahead of him.
