Playoffs Round 1 Preview: Quad City vs. Green Bay

Steamwheeler Fans, welcome to the First Round of the 2024 IFL Playoffs! Thus Friday, July 26th the number fourth seed sQUAD takes on a well known rival, the one seed Green Bay Blizzard.

This Eastern Conference matchup will be broadcasted on the official IFL YouTube channel with kickoff taking place at 7:05 pm. This battle of two familiar foes starts the road to Las Vegas where the IFL National Championship will take place.

 

About the Steamwheelers

The Wheelers are coming off a last second loss to the Jacksonville Sharks, this brought the Steamwheelers to an 8-8 record on the year.  before that the sQUAD picked up back-to-back wins over the Tulsa Oilers and the Sioux Falls Storm. The sQUAD is looking to tap back into the confidence they've accumulated throughout this season so far and keep on dancing en route to the next round of the IFL Playoffs.

 

About the Blizzard 

Green Bay is coming off an amazing overall regular season, a 13-3 record and the number one seed in the Eastern Conference of the IFL Playoffs. Their last 3 games saw the Blizzard go undefeated as well as showing their strengths to their opponents. Look fo the Blzzard to make it snow in July as they compete for a win.

 

Last Time Out

The last time these two teams met Green Bay's Blizzard turned into water real quick with the sQUAD notching their only win in the season series, 37-27. The rest of the matchups saw the Blizzard win by a wide margin. These two teams are never shy to express their emotions to one another on the field no matter if its players, coaches, even the fans let each other know what they're feeling so this will be a chippy and intense battle in a hostile environment for the Wheelers. 

 

Players to Watch

Offense

Edward Vander - RB // QCS - In this matchup the Steamwheelers will look to Vanders rushing and scoring abilities to move the chains downfield and to get into the endzone. Keep an eye out for number seven to bulldoze right through the Blizzard defense.

EJ Burgess - WR // GBB - The Blizzard's number one receiver has been displaying his best all season, in his last matchup he picked up over 123 receiving yards along with two touchdowns. 

 

Defense

Nijul Canada - DB // GBB - The Blizzard defensive back has been no slouch all year, in his last outing he picked up eight total tackles to add to his now total of 28. He has done damage in his first year in the IFL and is continuing to show why he has earned his spot.

Malik Duncan - DB // QCS - The defensive anchor of the sQUAD has held down his position as captain for this season. Dunc has been consistent this year, putting up over 40 total tackles, three interceptions, and three tackles for loss. The IFL vet is looking to lead the defense to dominance and do their part for a win to move onto the next round of the IFL Playoffs.
